The castle was built in the Middle Ages near a church and remained under the control of Ardengheschi until the thirteenth century, to pass in the next century to Buonsignori after a series of struggles between groups for control of the entire area.
Even after it became part of the Republic of Siena, the castle continued to remain privately owned, suffering over the centuries many renovations that have modified the original structure, while maintaining at various points elements dating back to the original construction.
