Trappola Tower

The fortification was built in the Middle Ages to guard a river port near the mouth of the Ombrone and included the current construction, and a complex of buildings culminating with a small tower, a curtain wall and the small church of “Sant’Antonio da Padova alla Trappola”.
The entire complex of the medieval era remained intact until the second half of the eighteenth century, a period in which the collection and production of salt was definitively ceased. In the same period the secondary tower and the curtain wall were demolished and the church was suppressed. The complex began to exercise only the function of customs until its complete disposal; since then it has become privately owned.
